Classes, Workshops & Private Lessons

Help your child or teen set themselves A.P.A.R.T with us this year and empower them with the skills and tools they need to be prepared, ready, and successful. Let us show you and your child how learning and exploring the craft and artistry of theatre can help them stand A.P.A.R.T from their competition and ace their next big moment; whether it be on the stage, in the classroom, or on the sport fields.

At The Academy, we believe that every child can develop the presentational skills and confidence they need for success in their endeavors, if they have an encouraging and nurturing environment to safely and freely explore and discover their inner talents and creativity while being afforded the chance to forge deep, lasting friendships in an inclusive, community atmosphere. That's who we are and what we do!

Acting 2 - Fall Session     AGES 10 - 14

DURATION:

10 Weeks

SCHEDULE:

OCT 7 - DEC 9

Day: Mondays

Time: 4-6pm

TUITION:

$485

This acting class looks at the first core element of The Academy's approach to theatrical performance: craft. Craft has two well known definitions that we think complement each other. It can be defined as an activity involving skill and as a skill used in deceiving others. A good actor is able to combine both of these definitions to create a truthful and believable character that can look, walk, sound, behave, and move unlike themselves, an activity in theatrical deception that requires great skill and practice.

Students will have the chance to explore and discover a variety of different types of characters in both classic and modern plays and musicals, and learn how to build, create, and breathe life into characters that can be either very similar to or drastically different from themselves. A focus will be placed on teaching students various methods and skill sets used by actors to make their characters believable and helping the student discover how to use their bodies, voices, and expressions to switch between different character types, a skill that is necessary for all actors, especially when tasked with a swing or ensemble role with more than one character track.

Acting 3 - Fall Session    AGES 15 - 18

DURATION:

10 Weeks

SCHEDULE:

OCT 2 - DEC 4

Day: Wednesdays

Time: 4-6pm

TUITION:

$485

This acting class looks at the second core element of The Academy's approach to theatrical performance: artistry. Art is defined as the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form, to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

Students will have the chance to explore and discover a variety of roles, both typical and atypical, classic and modern, and approach them from a variety of creative and imaginative angles using different acting styles, modalities, and techniques. A focus will be placed on how students are using their expressions, voice, speech, movement, and physicality to emote and produce believable and truthful characters and helping the student discover deeper emotional and expressive connections to themselves, the characters they play, and other characters they are interacting with.

Acting through the Song:

Guest Artist Workshop Series   AGES 10 - 18

SCHEDULE:

TBD

TUITION:

$200

Ask any well-rounded live theatre performer, and they will tell you that one of the most important - and often most challenging - elements of any musical performance is the ability to act through a song in a way that their audience connects with and that makes sense - not for themselves - but for the character they are portraying.

In a musical,  a song is much more than words set to music. Musical songs propel a character's arc and journey through a show, reveal motives, intentions, inner emotions, conflicts of interest, desires, wants, and so much more. Therefore, how an well-rounded performer approaches a musical song is a deep and personal process that requires an intimate understanding of their character and the world in which their character exists - before, during, and after their on-stage moments.

To help our students learn the process that different professional performers use when acting through songs, we have created this exciting workshop opportunity for them to meet with a professional guest artist and learn about their own process of acting through a song. We then give students the chance, under the supportive and nurturing eye of the guest artist of our own teaching artists, to explore and discover for themselves how to dig deeper into a song and act through it with purpose, intention, and understanding.

Enrollment in this course is limited to 10 students to ensure each student is able to receive individualized attention and feedback from the guest and teaching artists.
