Classes, Workshops & Private Lessons

Help your child or teen set themselves A.P.A.R.T with us this year and empower them with the skills and tools they need to be prepared, ready, and successful. Let us show you and your child how learning and exploring the craft and artistry of theatre can help them stand A.P.A.R.T from their competition and ace their next big moment; whether it be on the stage, in the classroom, or on the sport fields.

At The Academy, we believe that every child can develop the presentational skills and confidence they need for success in their endeavors, if they have an encouraging and nurturing environment to safely and freely explore and discover their inner talents and creativity while being afforded the chance to forge deep, lasting friendships in an inclusive, community atmosphere. That's who we are and what we do!

Week of

FEB - APR

This musical theatre class is the perfect way to introduce students to the wonder and exhilaration of the musical theatre genre!

Students will review and  build on basic acting concepts through game and exercise. Students will use role-playing and basic creative drama exercises to bring scenes and stories to life and will then use this knowledge to explore how to interpret and connect to lyrics to tell the story in a song. Staged musical numbers will also be introduced and students will begin to develop an awareness of how the elements of scene, song, and dance work together to tell a musical story.

Basic reading skills are required.

Musical Theatre 2 - Spring Session   AGES 10 - 14

DURATION:

10 Weeks

SCHEDULE:

Week of

JAN 27 - MAR 30

Day: Mondays

Time: 4-6pm

TUITION:

$485

This musical theatre class looks at the first core element of The Academy's approach to theatrical performance: craft. Craft has two well known definitions that we think complement each other. It can be defined as an activity involving skill and as a skill used in deceiving others. A good actor is able to combine both of these definitions to create a truthful and believable character that can look, walk, sound, behave, and move unlike themselves, an activity in theatrical deception that requires great skill and practice.

Students will continue to review and build on concepts and techniques developed in Musical Theatre 2 - Fall Session and implement concepts of Acting 2 (note: Acting 2 is suggested, but is NOT required or necessary to enroll in this course) and take these acting foundations and begin to integrate  and apply them to the musical theatre genre with the integration of music and movement. Students will learn about the different types of songs and motivations that help to propel a musical's plot forward. Students will get the chance to explore and discover - through the integration of scene work, song, and musical movement - how actors use the rich material in musical librettos to help create their characters and portray to their audiences the inner emotions and motives of the characters they play. They will also explore how mood, emotion, and motive can shift the meaning of a song and why understanding the moments leading up to and following the song and developing  and being mindful of backstories are important for consistent musical performances.

Acting 1 - Spring Session   AGES 6 - 9

DURATION:

10 Weeks

SCHEDULE:

FEB 1 - APR 4

Day: Saturdays

Time: 12-2pm

TUITION:

$485

This acting class is the perfect way to introduce students to the magic, power, and joy that live theatre can create for both actors on stage and audiences.

Students will have the chance to explore and discover what theatre and acting is all about through fun theatre games, role-playing, team (ensemble) activities, and more. An emphasis will be placed on helping the young performer become more aware of their body, voice, and emotions when they are on stage and will also introduce them to our two core Academy elements of craft and art. At the end of this course, students will have developed either a new-found passion for performing, or furthered confirmed their love of theatre and gained a new set of confidence and self-esteem boosting tools that they can take with them everywhere!

Basic reading skills are required.

Acting 2 - Spring Session   AGES 10 - 14

DURATION:

10 Weeks

SCHEDULE:

FEB 1 - APR 4

Day: Saturdays

Time: 11:45-1:45

TUITION:

$485

This acting class continues to look at the first core element of The Academy's approach to theatrical performance: craft.

Students will continue to have the chance to explore and discover a variety of different types of characters in both classic and modern plays and musicals, and learn how to build, create, and breathe life into characters that can be either very similar to or drastically different from themselves. A focus will be placed on teaching students various methods and skill sets used by actors to make their characters believable and helping the student discover how to use their bodies, voices, and expressions to switch between different character types, a skill that is necessary for all actors, especially when tasked with a swing or ensemble role with more than one character track.
